New Weblog: Fact-Check Central
My buddy June Thomas has started a new weblog (and kept it up for a week, yay!). "As part of my job, I read hundreds of papers from around the world every week. Most of them provide amusement and edification by correcting previous mistatements, or making new ones. 'Eureka,' I thought, I can be the proprietor of the fuck-up zone. I don't actually propose to fact-check the world's press, but I hope to provide links to some good corrections and perhaps to point out an error from time to time."

Bluejack on the Twiddler
My old journal friend Bluejack now only has a few bits of original content visible on his site. (He might have some things not linked in anywhere, I guess.) This page relates his experiences in learning to use the twiddler, a one-handed chording keyboard and mouse all in one. I think he gave up after a few days. But now there is -- (tah-dah!) the Twiddler2, seemingly much improved.

Scott Larson's Swing Journal
Scott does a great job depicting his experiences learning to lindy hop in Portland, Oregon. I especially like his recounting of an afternoon with Frankie Manning.

Space Ghost's New years Resolutions
Even cartoon characters make NYRs!
"Space Ghost: At this time, I'd like to share with you a few of my hopes and dreams for the up and coming fiscal year
#1. I'd like to sleep in more.
#2. I think I'd like to do a little modeling
#3. Stop drawing bears in ties.
#4. I'm gonna eat a big pot of cheese, with grilled onions
#5. I'm gonna start using a napkin to wipe my mouth instead of my cape, this will save me a nice chunk of change at the cleaners.
#6. Ignore all research
#7. Design a line of casual wear called 'Mad Dog' "

Green Pajamas Party
I started listening to the Green Pajamas because bass player Joe "Nosey Joe" Ross is a dance buddy from way back, and I wanted to support his efforts. But I really do like it! This interview tells the band's story.
Joe - Back in early 80s in West Seattle, there were people who listened to Van Halen and disco and then there were those who listened to New Wave - Elvis Costello and that sort of guitar rock. You could spot another person who was like you 'cause they wore a suit jacket and jeans and sneakers and they wore a button with one of those catchy new wave sayings. And me and Jeff met at a party and we ended up talking about "Rain" and early Beatles – Rubber Soul into Revolver-era. There weren't a lot of people into that sort of stuff at the time. We made plans to get together. A bit later, Jeff called me up and said, "I've got this new record. Listen to this." And it was Rain Parade's "Emergency Third Rail Power Trip." That encapsulated what we were talking about with "Rain."
Their page on seapeace.org does have some links to recent CDs and tapes. I recommend them!

If you are interested in in-depth interviews with some of the folks featured on Ken Burns' JAZZ opus, they've got transcripts on the PBS web site. All are in PDF. I'm especially enjoying Lindy Hop living treasures Frankie Manning and Norma Miller.

Monolith reappears on Island in Greenlake
I'm betting that it will next appear in Seattle center, going from the message (a "cryptic email tip") that KING 5 news got: "The area is green, and a circle for all. The center is where, the monolith will next fall."

New Year's Resolutions for an Arabian Horse
I never knew so many animals made NY resolutions. "I resolve not to play with and dump over my water bucket right after it is filled."

New Year's Resolutions from the BBB
Funny, each of these involves calling the Better Business Bureau! "Never order by mail from firms whose reliability report you have not, or cannot check. Call your BBB."
