Partners-in-Rhyme: word defs with limericks
Join the mailing list, and you get a word-a-day defined, with limericks, too! Today's word is "dreidel"

"Holiday joys, how kids float 'em
The receipt of gifts, and to tote 'em,
With happiness felt
'Bout Chanukah gelt,
From spin of DREIDEL teetotum."

Port Townsend Guide
I'll be in Port Townsend between Boxing Day and New Years day, at a fun dance camp. It's a fun place -- it used to be a big town for business, back when water was the main means of transport in the Northwest, so there is an interesting Victorian business district and lots of Bed and breakfast places.

Santa Video on 120seconds.com
If you don't find this on the home page, check the "giggles" section (how disrespectful of santa!). Real video sequence that gives a true impression of the Santa Rampage.

These are some pretty good-looking and usable kilts, I think! Lots of pictures of fine-looking guys in nontrad camo, olive, tan or black kilts -- some with many pockets. "CAN YOU MAKE A TARTAN UTILIKILT? No can do Amigo. My design is mathematical. It is not conducive to matching plaid. Besides, it defies my idea. You spent $150-$700 on some fine, wool tartan, that's fine. My objective is to give you something cool and liberating while you're out there in real life f#%king shit up. "

Build your own Chicago!
Cool! Postcard kits that let you build models of famous Chicago landmarks! These are really sweet. There are free PDF versions for the Amoco building and the virtual Minnesota Museum of the Mississippi, or you can order the cards for the other buildings.

Neil's take on Van Santacon
Some very good pictures! "the staff did a fine job of serving the invading Kris Kringle hordes with friendliness and aplomb, amid cries of, 'WHICH SANTA ORDERED THE SOUP?' and so on. After a couple hours the ranks had swelled to a good four or five dozen, and Santa marched triumphantly out to the Broadway SkyTrain station."

Cashman on Holiday Cards and pictures
"Maybe the most welcome holiday mailing is the traditional family photo. One family I know has been dispensing them for more than 40 years. The kids, now all adults, still gather every year for a new photo. (Frankly, what was charming and cute when they were little children has now become a bit unsettling and macabre)."

Santa Rampage in Vancouver BC
A few pictures from this past weekend, with more coverage to come, I'm sure. We had a good time! I especially liked the Santa Pinata.
