Pyroboy gets critiqued
My buddy Wally discovered that his pyroboy act was being discussed at a juggling site. The comments were interesting, considering that most of those commenting hadn't ever seen him! Of course, he decided to egg them on.

Is it Real? Knockoff? Authorized Repro?
Joe Kunkel at Jet Set Modern had assembeled three viewpoints on repro and reissues of furniture and art: a collector, a manufacturer, and a designer's heir. "First, we need to define 'original'. Even this is tricky. What is an original? Is it the prototype of a design classic? Is it the production version? Is it the early production version, or the late? Huh?"

Behind the scenes at Junkyard wars
Catapult expert Ron Toms: "Months before the show, we were each given the task of hurling a ten pound pumpkin 50 yards into a bathtub. We had to come up with a detailed design and a wish list of parts we would hope to find in the yard. The producers actually have real engineers review the plans, and they forward lots of questions and concerns back to us. The designs are pretty well established before anyone gets near the set. FlyLady is a declutter mentor
I haven't signed up for her list myself, but I've heard testimony from many about how she helped. Best advice: get lace-up shoes and put them on in the morning -- lace-up because you won't slip them off so easily, and can stay on track with things that need doing (must go put on my shoes now!). Her name comes from her interest in fly fishing.

Lileks on 70s decor
This is the first time Lileks has stopped a project in the middle because the content was so hard for him to take! I'll confess, my bedroom in junior high had white walls and a black fake-fur bedspread, and I repainted my childhood desk in black and red enamel.

Pardon my hiatus!
I'm used to updating this site from work -- but I got laid off a few weeks ago, then got engaged two days after that. A bit distracting!
